Wireless charging combined with NFC is used today in two key applications:  Automotive in-cabin charging for Bluetooth connectivity and Wi-Fi pairing, device authentication, keyless car applications, and NFC card protection. Wireless charging and NFC can also be found in some audio players to pair the device to the audio player instantaneously, removing the cumbersome Bluetooth pairing.

Technically speaking, the Receiver coil (Rx) and the Phone NFC antenna are embedded in the phone itself.  The transmitter coil (Tx) & NFC antenna are located in the wireless power transmitter ( the charger). The Tx coil transmits power to the Rx coil using magnetic induction at low frequencies (<300[kHz.]. The NFC antennas transfer data using designated NFC high frequency (13.78[MHz.])

Typically wireless charging and NFC combined don’t operate simultaneously. Due to the change in frequency, the NFC data can be transferred fast before, after, or even interleaved in short charging halts during the power transfer. There is an option to operate them simultaneously, assuming that there are relevant filters and protections in place on either side.

When embedded in vehicles, NFC communication technology enables connectivity features such as driver & passenger authentication, fast pairing with the vehicle infotainment system, keyless car functionality, and personalized setting customizations.

No. Standard Qi BPP 5W charging does not damage NFC circuits on most common phones. This is as a result of some efforts, on both the NFC side as well as the WPC (Qi) specifications. Due to the significant change in operating frequency, phone manufacturers can implement HW filters and protections to make sure that the low-frequency magnetic field used for power transfer will not transfer much energy in the designated NFC frequency.

On the WPC side, there are some protocol definitions for when each side should operate each function (wireless power transfer &\or NFC). Higher rates of wireless power transfer could potentially damage NFC tags, but phone manufacturers usually implement protections to prevent damage.
